Ksplice Named Best Security Innovation of 2009 by the Wall Street Journal
Cambridge, Mass.—September 14, 2009—Ksplice, an enterprise software company that makes systems more secure, reliable, and maintainable through seamless updates, was today named the winner of the Security and Privacy category of the 2009 Wall Street Journal Global Technology Innovation Awards.
Ksplice’s first product, Ksplice Uptrack, makes it possible to apply software updates to the Linux operating system without the disruption and downtime of rebooting. Companies use Ksplice Uptrack to decrease system maintenance costs while improving system security, stability, and availability. “After years of research and development, it has been gratifying over the last year to see organizations put this product to use”, said Tim Abbott, Ksplice’s CTO. “We appreciate the technology and market validation represented by this award.”
The Journal received more than 500 nominations this year for the prestigious competition, which is in its ninth year. According to the Wall Street Journal, the judges look for innovations that represent true breakthroughs from conventional methods and that are not simply marginal improvements to existing products and services. Winning innovations must “both break new ground and demonstrate some measurable impact”, according to Lawrence Rout, an editor at the Journal.
This year’s panel of sixteen distinguished judges recognized innovations in twelve categories: Computing Systems, Consumer Electronics, Energy, Environment, Healthcare IT, Materials, Medical Devices, Medicine-Biotech, Semiconductors, Security and Privacy, Software, and Wireless. Other winners this year include cloud operating system software from VMware and new mobile device display technology from Qualcomm. Notable winners from previous years include PGP and Sun’s DTrace technology.
Ksplice will officially accept the award at a ceremony and dinner on October 13 in Redwood City, Calif.
